Shelley Beach, Manly

May 26th, 2014

Situated on the iconic Shelley Beach walkway of Manly is one of Sydney’s newest residences. Designed by leading architect Sam Crawford of Sam Crawford Architects, and built by Sean Coddington of Coddington Constructions, this home is idyllically north-positioned and overlooks one of Sydney’s most famous attractions.

As with many such residences on Sydney’s East coast, the house is constructed over multiple levels although it feels minimal and very livable due to the clever use of subtle level changes internally and externally.

DBLS was retained to do external stoneworks and garden terracing to complement the architecture and integrate the home into the landscape. Two distinct paving styles were incorporated into the pathways and flow-throughs.

DBLS signature style of random square sandstone pattern using recycled sandstone blocks was used extensively in retaining walls and externals. Massive sparrow-pecked stone blocks were installed for the external steps leading down to the Shelley Beach walkway and add a heritage touch.
